Mostaccioli con Ricotta

This Mostaccioli con Ricotta recipe is a satisfying baked pasta dish perfect to feed a crowd! Featuring spicy Italian sausage, creamy ricotta cheese, and homemade meat sauce.

Let’s get started!

Cook Pasta & Brown the Sausage


Cook the pasta in a large pot of salted water. Brown the Italian sausage and break it into smaller pieces as it browns.

Make the Sauce


Add the canned tomatoes or jar of pasta sauce to the pot. Stir with the meat mixture. Season to taste with more salt if needed.

Mix the Cheeses


In a separate mixing bowl, mix the ricotta, shredded mozzarella, thyme, basil, oregano, rosemary, and egg.

Add Pasta to Tomato Sauce & Mix


Once the pasta is cooked, drain and add the pasta into the pot of tomato sauce and mix well.



Spoon half of pasta mixture. Layer and spread ricotta cheese mixture. Top remaining pasta, sprinkle rest of shredded mozzarella with parmesan.



Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes. Option to broil for 3 more minutes to get crispy edges!

Serve & Enjoy


Remove from the oven and serve with fresh basil for garnish if desired. Enjoy!
