This Papaya Mango Smoothie combines the tropical sweetness of ripe mangoes with the creamy, buttery texture of papaya, creating a delicious blend that's as healthy as it is satisfying. Whether you're seeking a quick breakfast option, a post-workout refuel, or a midday treat, this smoothie ticks all the boxes!
Why We Love This Papaya Mango Smoothie
Papaya ranks pretty darn high on my list of favorite fruits. Since moving to Latin America, I have been exposed to so many tropical fruits that I was never used to eating in the United States! Papaya is one of them. It is soft, sweet, and is packed with fiber!
Another fruit that is in abundance in Ecuador is mango! So I combined these two delicious fruits into one delicious breakfast smoothie. This papaya mango smoothie has tropical vibes, making it a mood-boosting way to start your day.
If you are trying to add more fruits and fiber into your diet, this papaya mango smoothie recipe is perfect for you!

Ingredients
Here are the ingredients you need to make a homemade papaya mango smoothie:
- Papaya: I used one large papaya here. Make sure you wait until it is slightly soft. It will be harder than a ripe avocado, but not as firm as say, an apple.
- Mango: One ripe mango is enough to add a tangy flavor. However, you can add as many mangoes as you'd like!
- Orange Juice: I squeezed a large orange for some fresh orange juice. You can opt for bottled orange juice if you have it on hand!
- Coconut Milk: Also adds to the tropical vibes here! I used coconut milk from the carton. If you use canned, full fat coconut milk the smoothie will be thicker.
- Honey: To naturally add a bit of extra sweetness!
- Ice: You have two options. Either freeze your diced papaya before making the smoothie, or add a handful of ice!
How to Make a Papaya Mango Smoothie
Step 1: First, prep the fruits. To cut the papaya, slice it in half and scoop out the seeds with a spoon. Carefully use a knife to make square pieces and scoop the squares out using a spoon, just as you would cut an avocado.
Step 2: Add the diced papaya, mango, orange juice, coconut milk, honey and ice into a blender.
Step 3: Blend until smooth.
Taste and add more honey if desired. Serve cold and enjoy!
Variations
- Add some greens! Add about ½ cup of spinach to your smoothie for added nutrients. The color will not be great, but it will still taste amaxing!
- Add protein powder! For a high protein papaya mango smoothie, add a scoop of vanilla or unflavored protein powder.
- Add chia seeds! Chia seeds will help you stay fuller for longer after drinking this smoothie.
Storage
I recommend enjoying this tropical mango papaya smoothie as soon as you make it. However, you can store any leftover papaya mango smoothie in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 day!
For longer storage, store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 1 week. Thaw in the fridge overnight before stirring or shaking well and serve!
Top Tips
- For the best flavor, make sure your mangoes and papayas are ripe! Ripe papayas should have a vibrant orange color and give slightly when pressed. Mangoes will also be slightly soft when ripe!
- Adjust the sweetness according to your preference. Depending on how ripe your fruits are, you may not need any additional honey. Taste it first before adding in case it is already sweet enough!
- Experiment with the liquid! I like coconut milk, but you can use almond milk, regular milk, water, extra orange juice, or even some green tea!
Frequently Asked Questions
If you have never cut a papaya, it can seem intimidating. I use a large, sharp chef's knife to slice the papaya in half. Then, scoop out the seeds with a spoon. Use the knife carefully to slice vertical and horizontal lines to create a grid. Then, use a spoon to scoop out the papaya from the peel. It is the same method that I use to slice up an avocado!
Definitely! Especially if you can't find fresh papaya or mango out of season, then you can opt for frozen mango and frozen papaya chunks from the freezer aisle for this papaya smoothie recipe!
